I flew into the Gulfport/Biloxi airport today. I like looking out of the windows when the plane lands, just to get the look and feel of where I'm going.
I noticed something today. Popping up over the treelines, it seemed like every few blocks, there were white steeples.
And as I drove around Biloxi, I noticed that a huge percentage of the churches all look the same. Red brick buildings with a white (or sometimes white with black shingles) steeple. It's like they all were built on the same template.
At first, I thought it was kind of odd and kind of funny. But the more I saw of them, the more I liked it. What does it symbolize for people to know what something is. It seems like so many new churches look like an office building, or an industrial complex, or a mall.
There is something about the symbol of the building, and its presence in the community that sends a message of presence in a spiritual sense.
